4kennedy: (I watch for the plot!)

There's a new drabble cycle round over at [livejournal.com profile] femslash100. The theme for this round is Alternate Universes, which sounds pretty awesome. But besides my usual problem - which fandom/pairing to pick - I'm not certain if me and alternate universes would be a good team. It seems difficult to make it work and those attempts I made at writting AUs felt... kinda weird.
Any advices? Suggestions? Fandom/pairing proposals are also welcome :)

Well, you're allowed to make a general claim - in which case you could pick the fandom/pairing that you thought you could make work best for each prompt.

Mental worldbuilding is my best tip, I think. Come up with enough ideas about the AU verse you're writing in that your snippet doesn't feel so out of place, I guess.

thank you for your help/suggestions. Well, the "problem" is that as a multishipper I love and write a lot of different fandoms and it's just hard to settle on one :)
I'll definitely try the mental worldbuilding thingy and try to make it work in my head first. It'll hopefully help to decide on a fandom.
thanks, Clara.

True. (I'll give you the example of my first tables, though - those were multifandom claims and I used drabble tag prompts to pick which ship would work best with each prompt)

I'd like to pick a single ship (or at least a single fandom) this time around (at least once) so I haven't made a claim yet in this cycle, but it'll last a while, so I'm not really worried about it. I have a few things to finish first, anyway.

hey.
thanks for the link, I'll definitely check it out. I have an almost finished table over at [livejournal.com profile] femslash100100 where I claimed Glee as a general fandom, which makes things sometimes easier than claiming a pairing. As for the kink cycle I claimed a pairing (Arrow, Felicity/Sara) which worked out suprisingly well too.
I've decided on a fandom for this cycle in the meantime, not sure to claim the general fandom or a pairing yet.
oh yes, I have a few things to finish first too. who doesn't? =)
thanks for your thoughts on this.

I picked Once Upon A Time partly because it has a built in AU with storybrooke and the enchanted forest so I find it easier to write AU for them because of what's happened in Canon.

I guess you could look at fandoms with a built in AU already like Fringe or pretty much any Sci-fi fandom.

Another way to go would be characters that you are really comfortable writing. If you know the characters it's easier to drop them into a new situation.

Hope that's a bit helpful! I'm sure whatever you decide will be excellent!

ah, I see. clever, girl :) it goes so without saying that I didn't even realized it properly that OUaT has a built in AU.
I've decided on a fandom in the meantime, there's only the question left of claiming the general fandom or a pairing. but you're absolutely right, it's easier to write for characters you've known/written for a while.of course it was very helpful. thank you for your thoughts.
